High School
The primary objective of the NHCS high school is to provide an academic environment that encourages learning and views education as a means by which a student can glorify God by what he or she becomes in life. It offers a program that will prepare students for college, technical school or whatever vocational path that they feel led to pursue.
The high school also features a strong academic program which prepares Christian young people for college or some other form of higher education. Mathematics classes include pre-algebra, Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, business mathematics, pre-calculus and advanced calculus. Bible, which is taught every year in high school, combines Bible doctrine and practical applications to help prepare young people for important decisions that they will face in life.
Science offerings include life science, earth science health and human anatomy, physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics. The English/literature department stresses traditional grammar and a program that develops reading comprehension and vocabulary. Electives include computer applications, keyboarding, Spanish, French German, art, choir, American history, world history, civics, and economics are taught from a traditional, Christian perspective.
Academic accountability at North Hills Christian School is verified by results from Stanford Achievement Tests, which are given each spring to K-5 to eleventh grade. Typically, North Hills Christian School scores in the 78th percentile in national achievement tests. The results of these tests are included in the final report cards. Accountability for the seniors is maintained by using SAT and ACT college admission test results. The academics are challenging and provide experiences for those who are academically advanced as well as those who need a more general focus. NHCS students average 1100 on the SAT's for college. Their success rate at various colleges is extremely high.
