Athletic Program

The school is a member of the Fundamental Christian Athletic Association. The league sports program includes volleyball and basketball for the girls and soccer and basketball for the boys. Other sports, such as girls’ soccer, may be available if there is interest.

All students are welcome to try out for the teams as long as they are eligible. Eligibility is based upon the areas of academics and discipline. No student may participate while on academic or disciplinary probation. Thereafter, interim progress reports will determine if the ineligible player may become eligible.

NHCS competes with schools similar in size and philosophy. The sports program is created to provide additional opportunities to teach Christian character. Participation does not guarantee each player equal playing time. How much playing time a student receives will be determined by several factors, including the following:

  1. The number of practices attended
  2. The level of competition
  3. The skill of the player
  4. The attitude of the player
  5. The benefit that both the team and player receive by being used at that time
  6. The coach’s assessment of the game situation

Young players are encouraged to practice hard, be faithful to practices, play when the coach sees the opportunity, and be patient, for their time will come.

Athletes are required to secure assignments in homework and make arrangements to take their tests before leaving for a game. It is to be remembered that the purpose of the school is a Christian education. This education may include athletics, but athletics should never become a deterrent to that education.
